Other Events

Since 2001, the Architecture Foundation Australia has held the two-week residential studio based Glenn Murcutt International Master Class for practising architects. Participants from over eighty nations have travelled to Australia each year to participate. The first week has always been held at the Arthur and Yvonne Boyd Education Centre, on the Shoalhaven River south of Sydney, designed by Glenn Murcutt, Wendy Lewin and Reg Lark. The second week has been held in various venues, usually in Sydney. Tutors on the program include Glenn Murcutt, Professor Brit Andresen, Richard Leplastrier and Peter Stutchbury - all Gold Medallists of the AustralianInstitute of Architects - the program is convened by Lindsay Johnston, former Dean of Architecture and Design at the University of Newcastle Australia. The next Murcutt Master Class is 16-30 September 2018, and is now fully booked. See - 'Past Events'

The 2019 Murcutt Master Class will be held 15-29 September 2019.

Since 2005, the Foundation has run a one-week residential Architecture Student Summer School at Pittwater Youth Hostel in the Ku-rin-gai National Park north of Sydney. See 'Past Events"

The next Summer School will be held 10-16 February 2019.

The Architecture Foundation Australia has presented several architecture conferences. The Deerubbin Conferences take place on the beautiful Milson Island, on the Hawkesbury River, north of Sydney. These are weekend residential events - 'good architecture and goos people- all together' - modelled on the famous Røros Conferences in Norway. The Deerubbin Conferences are held every two years - 2014, 2016 and 2018 - usually in March. In 2017, a major international conference was held at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne. Twelve international speakers included Níall McLaughlin and Marina Tabassum, and ten other speakers, all of whom were alumni from the Glenn Murcutt Master Classes.

The plan is to have another Deerubbin Conference in March 2020.

International Architecture Master Classes

Associated Master Classes have been held in the Blue Mountains Australia, with Rick Joy; several at Awaroa Lodge in the Abel Tasman National Park in New Zealand, with New Zealand legend Ian Athfield; at the Glencree Reconciliation Centre in Wicklow Ireland with Finnish architect and scholar Juhani Pallasmaa; and in South Africa, Namibia, Chile, Colorado, Vermont, Bangalore and Dhaka.   We strive to continue presenting place based immersive programs with eminent tutors in significant locations around the world. Many of these programs are developed in partnership with collaborating organisations, practices and individuals.
