Blue Mountains World Heritage Area Visitor Centre,
Bilpin, NSW
Competition winning design for a Visitor Centre in the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, that celebrates diverse eucalypt communities. Located above a sandstone escarpment, the access itinerary is aligned on solar north and leads through the forest, through a central meeting place under a canopy roof with public sculpture installation reflecting eucalypt themes, to a viewing jetty. Solar collectors act as sun shades on the north façade and the main roof is earth covered with vegetation replicating the natural landscape.
