Moreton Bay Houses,
Wynnum, Queensland, Australia
The brief sought four apartments for single woman, but regulations demanded two houses, now designed to be later re-configured. A principal architectural intention was to establish building and landscape relations through metaphor, sightlines and coherence. A set of frames across the site can be selectively screened to support the making of inside and outside rooms and to form a continuous habitable terrain at ground level. The timber framework creates a super-scale garden trellis over the site from which to support a hanging garden and the vertical screen along the street elevation provides a degree of security, sun screening and privacy.
