In the picture at back left seated is Aboriginal Elder Uncle Max Dulumunmun Harrison with his partner Marelle Burnum Burnum. Immediately behind Max is Otto Murcutt, grandson of Glenn Murcutt, being held by his mother Rachel Neeson, wife of Glenn’s son Nick who tragically died last year from cancer, age 42. Beside Rachel is Lindsay Johnston, Founder and Convener of the Foundation, and then four Australian Institute of Architects Gold Medallists – Glenn Murcutt, Professor Brit Andresen, seated holding a glass Richard Leplastrier and standing beside him Lawrence Nield in the green shirt. Seated to the left of Richard is Andrea Nield, founder of Emergency Architects Australia, and to the left of her is Peter Stutchbury and partner Leanne Borg. In front and to the right of Lawrence, in the blue shirt, is the Foundation lawyer Stephen Rayfield with his daughter Chloe, who was a participant on the very first Architecture Student Summer School in 2005.

A splendid new publication on the life and works of Glenn Murcutt has been released by El Croquis as a double Issue 163/164 December 2012. It includes an extensive interview conversation with Murcutt by Sean Godsell and an essay, ‘Feathers of Metal’, by his good friend Finnish architect and writer Juhani Pallasmaa. There are, in all, 415 large format pages with thorough coverage of projects from his seminal Marie Short House 1974-75, many of his subsequent houses, the Bowali Visitor Centre done with Troppo Architects 1993-99 , the Boyd Education Centre 1997-99 done with Wendy Lewin and Reg Lark, his most recent house in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney and two current projects, a Mosque outside Melbourne currently under construction, and a proposed Opal Museum for outback Lightning Ridge. The publication includes many Glenn conceptual sketches, superb photography by Anthony Browell and facsimile copies of many of Glenn’s working drawings. An exhibition of Murcutt’s work is currently showing at CIVA in Brussels until 20 January 2013 and opens at the Museum of Finnish Architecture in Helsinki on 6 March until 26 May 2013. The annual Glenn Murcutt International Architecture Master Class takes place with Glenn Murcutt, Professor Brit Andresen, ... Read More »

The post El Croquis on Murcutt appeared first on OZETECTURE.
